I just wonder if anyone has the alleged graphic problem with your vaio series. I got AR51J with 8400m GT early this year. So far it works fine, but not sure it would die shortly :smileysad:. What's the sony's response?

i was quoted around 600gbp for repair!!! a guy on ebay can fix it for 100gbp but i dont wanna take risk!
Finally sony recognize this issue!
I have one question, i was out of warranty when my gpu gave in, but thanks to consumer laws in sweden i got it repaired for free.
But if, in a year or so, my new gpu fails will sony then repair it? What i wonder is if my previous repair will get in the way for a future repair? If four years haven't passed that is.
i got it repaired for free.

Hi jonaas,
that decision would be Sony's.
IMO if the original repair was by Sony then I would guess a different nvidia chip may have been used already..
You could always contact vaio support now to put your mind at rest.
hi...does any one know the contact number for sony??? in UK!!! i hope its not 0906 1pound a minute call. well i'd rather waste 10 pounds on phone call and get it fixed for free then paying for repair! ALSO does any one know about How long does the whole repair process takes?
I wish they will swap my 256mb nvidia to 512mb
Thanks
Hi chokedup,
You can find the contact details for vaio support by clicking on Support, at the top of the page, and then click on Get in touch..
Hi Jonnas,
I think you must contact vaio support and present your case as they quoted too much so you got repaired through your vendor. Your vendor can give you a certificate and also tell details what had been done. I contacted Vaio support on 08702402408 though it is contact no. for valid warranty but as our case is special so they should consider. Mention that you are suffering with problem of faulty nVidia chip which is accepted now by vaio. They told me that repair will take 5-10 working days. I am still waiting for collection of my laptop.
Cheers
Hello All, It seems Sony is still not clear about the statement of faulty nVidia chip. Two days ago I was told that it will b collected free of cost. After waiting 2 days I called them again and they r telling that I have to pay transportation charge. When I argued that I have been sold a faulty product then France unit told that they have been informed about only one model not others. I mentioned about announcement of the sony. I have been told again to wait for call. It's a real fun for me to wait and explain problem every time to a different person but anyway I am upto that..Let us see....I request every owner of faulty laptops to demand ur right and put updates here..
Hi vicky4sony,
do you have a case number or the name of the Vaio support agent that you spoke to.?
