Nvidia G84m/G86m faulty chip happen to Vaio??

I just wonder if anyone has the alleged graphic problem with your vaio series. I got AR51J with 8400m GT early this year. So far it works fine, but not sure it would die shortly :slight_frown: :smileysad:. What's the sony's response?

Well i just got my AR21S repaired by a local company in the uk they replaced the GPU chip on the board for £170. It will be ready tomo to collect. So i hope it wont mess up again.

If i knew about this very late annoucement i would have rang up. Mine packed up this time last year, i went and bought a Toshiba X300.

Hi to all!
I have the same problem with my vaio VGN-FZ21M. About 3 weeks ago, i discovered the problem: strange lines and dot on the display, with blue screen of windows; so i decided to call the number of the assistance, and two days after, they toke my pc for repair. The laptot come back in about one week, and works perfectly for 1-2 hours; after that the same problem. So i recall the assistance, and they still toke the pc. The time for the second repairment was the same, about one week. The pc come back yesterday but after 2-3 hours of perfectly work, it had the same problem. Now they have taken the pc for the THIRD time... I hope there will be the last time and they'll repair correctly! :slight_frown: :slight_frown:

What are Sony doing? I have experienced exactly the same. Mine worked fine for two weeks and then it went crazy again. I've called Sony again and they are collecting my computer now for the second time. I do really hope that get it fixed now. Otherwise I can only see one resolution - give me a new computer! It should not be that difficult.

Yeah, exactly... If they are unable to repair it, change with a similar model! My opinion is that they fix the old main board, and they don't replace, even if they wrote on the documents of the riparation "replaced main board"! So the laptop work for same hours or day, but the problem there are not resolved

Hi all,
my hell, I have same problem, but on my NR31Z/S. GOD, why NR31 serie is not on the list with the longer warranty on GPU? I have G86M nVidia 8400 GT manufactured in May 07 so same shitty component as yours with FZ etc.
Is there anyone with NR who got some extra warranty or other satisfaction from Sony?
And other question, are the repaired gpus still these ones from 07 May, which are overheating and failing?

I have a NR21Z/S with the 8400M GT, mine is about a few months out of warranty now and it has the same problems as the pictures posted here. When I contacted Sony they said they would not repair it free of charge because it is not one of the affected models.

I also have NR21z with a nVidia 8400m and i have having the same problems as have been listed. i contacted sony and they wanted £217 to collect and diagnose the problem so i didnt accept the service. then i found out about this forum thread and yet havent contacted them again but as my vaio is not one of the listed models feel i will be wasting my time. has anyone with a model not listed had any luck getting it fixed?

If you search on ebay, there are some repair center that fix the problem for less than sony asked you; for example:
http://shop.ebay.co.uk/i.html?_nkw=sony+vaio+fault&_sacat=0&_trksid=p3286.m270.l1313&_odkw=vaio+fix+...

this is for 70£ for example
http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Sony-Vaio-FZ-series-Graphic-fault-Motherboard-Repairs_W0QQitemZ150373109536QQc...

but i don't know if they really fix correctly the problem...

today i called up play.com and made an enquiry into getting it fixed by them using the sale of goods act. the problem is i need a fault refeerance number so they can varify the problem. but sony say that the problem is not down to the faulty chip. does anyone know where i can get a fault referance number so i can get it repaired this was as i dont want to spend £217 just to send it off to get the problem diagnosed by sony for them to tell me its not the problem and play.com want fix it and sony will charge x amount more to fix the problem.
