PCG-K415S RAM update

Hey everybody,
I was wondering if some of you could help me out here.
The trouble I had lately with my slow and inconsistent performance has been fixed by a complete, factory settings and all, recovery.
Now I'm updating the RAM.

I bought 1 512MB card because that was the last one, I'm getting the other one Monday.
So I did as Vaio told me; removed the battery, and replaced one of the 256 RAM cards with my new 512 one.
Then I rebooted and checked the BIOS, but it still says 512MB in total.

The 512MB card is from 'Corsair', type: VS512SDS333
On the card it says: 512MB Memory Module, 200-PIN DDR, SO-DIMM

Could it be that the Corsair won't work together with the original vaio one? Or do I need to do something else before it works.
Thanks in advance,
Tyaculo

Thank you all very much
I informed at a website that sold RAM and it turns out Vaio is very picky when it comes to RAM. Mine only supports 'Kingston' and one other brand.
I'll order some this afternoon, and thanks a bundle for all the assistance!

Hey XIII29!
Yes I succeeded in my upgrade.
It appears that Vaio is very very picky when it comes to selecting RAM.
Personally I ordered Kingston memory and it works fine! (I think you can find what kind of RAM you should order on the Vaio site, or via google)

Just make sure that you order two 512mb cards, unfortunatly the PCG-K415s only supports 1gb RAM and lower.

I hope this helped a little, if not, feel free to ask me anything.

Ciao,
Tyaculo

Could you give me the description about your Ram ...
I bought :
- Kingston SO-DIMM DDR PC2100 (266 MHz) (2 of them)
==> do not work ...

So I try :
- Kingston SO-DIMM DDR PC2700 (333 MHz) (2 of them)

And I doesn't work again ...

So I would like to known which type you bought ...

Thanks 4 your answer ...

Hi xiii29

Have you had a look at Cruical.com .?

Several members have bought extra RAM from crucial and another benefit from buying from Crucial is there memory compatibility guarantee..

I've been around and I find some ... but it's look it is the same as those I already bought ...

That's why I'm asking the details about the RAM he bought ...

Hey XII29,

I found the packaging from the RAM I ordered. Unfortunately it doesn't say anything particularly helpful.

It says:
"KSY - V505/513
512MB memory Module
Equiv. SONY P/N: PCGE-MM512D"

I also opened up my laptop to see if the RAM said anything interesting, but it doesn't. Nothing about PC2xxxx or anything.

However, I ordered my RAM via internet. I'm not sure if it was Crucial but if they say it's the right RAM for you, they should be right. If you want to be sure, you could just send them an e-mail.

Sorry I can't give you any more specifics, I seem to have lost the letter that came with the RAM. Perhaps that could have given us some more info.
Good luck and again, feel free to ask if something is unclear.
