Got new FE41s in February. Have had problems with Vista ever since!!! Very unstable.....touch pad has always worked even with my microsoft external mouse. This weekend i downloaded some Vaio updates in the hope that with both the microsoft and vaio updates my computer will become more stable. Now my touch pad does not work at all. The method mentioned in the forums of turning the computer on and then off with the mouse unplugged did not work, in the device manager under mouse etc it only shows HID compliant mouse. No where do i see alps pointer device. Help please, i am sure there is a simple answer......Please be gentle in your advice as i am not super computer literate....but do know my way around the machine. Thanks jules
Hi julesdm,
Under mice and other pointing devices (Device Manager) do you have a PS/2 device listed? If so try right clicking the device and select update driver, then point the wizard in the direction of the Alps pointing device driver – (either on your recovery disk or the preinstalled drivers download from Vaio-Link ).
If the above is not relevant then try removing the HID device in Device Manage and then reboot (without the USB mouse plugged in).
