Hi
I have a K215Z notebook and I noticed that sometimes when I have my power saveings set on Battery Life or on Degrade my CPU it works at 3.06Ghz and for those settings it should work at 1.6Ghz.. why it does that? Does anybody have the same problem or know how to fix this? Its driving me mad this problem as when I use the battery it should be 1.6Ghz. Its normal to adapt to diffrent frequencies if I set it to Adaptive.
Anyways.. hope someone knows how to fix this...
Thank you.
Hi
Have a look at this Post
as I had the same problem.
It doesnt mention the 215 series, but look at all the posts and I am sure the answer is there.
Good Luck. Let me know how you get on.
Edit: I have just seen that you have been to this tread already -sorry -not much help then. I still suggest checking that your current bios is the latest version.
Thank you very much.. I will have a look now.
Unfortunately there's no BIOS update for my VAIO K215Z
But maybe I don't know where to have a look.. if you can help me it would be great.
Thank you
No, you are right -Ive just had a look here and there doesnt appear to be a BIOS upgrade.
I will have a look through to knowledge base...
Thank you very much.. hope there's a way to fix this annoying bug..
I read all the posts that you linked me to.. and I have the same versios of BIOS which you updated to.. so basicaly for me it should not have the same problem.. that's verry odd!
So now I have installed the latest BIOS (R0110X1), thankfully with no problems, so hopefully I will notice some change in processor speed dependent on workload???..
Knowledge base no help.
I keep my laptop on Vaio Optimized - then in advanced -enable Vaio power management - tick, then..
Plugged in - CPU set adaptive
Battery - CPU set degrade.
Using these settings my CPU drops to 1.6Ghz as soon as I pull the plug, provided it was at 3.06GHz .
I also use Mobilemeter which gives an accurate picture of speedstep working.
Good Luck
Same settings as me.. and i use Mobile Meter thats how i knew about the frequency..anyway
I use Degrade even for plugged in cable.. and same problem it jumps to 3.06Ghz random..
I guess I have to get used with this problem.
The only way to fix it until the next shutdown... i change from degrade to performace and then to degrade again and it drops from 3.06Ghz back to 1.6Ghz.. thats my only excape.. as i dont want to use 3Ghz for a simple application..and drain the battery...
What a bummer.... The CPC also runs at a higher temp when at 3.06GHz....
If Sony support were much help I'd say contact them., but....
I wonder if any other K215Z owners have the same issue? If you are out there let us know....
