Hi,

I upgraded my VGN-SZ1XP to Vista. Everything is working fine, with the exception of the fingerprint sensor. I attempted an upgrade of the drivers having obtained them from the VAIO support site. However, the installation informs me that I need to remove a previous version of the biometric software. Going into Control Panel-Programs & Features I attempted to remove the previous version of Protector Suite, however this fails with the error message that only IE5 or greater is supported (I am on IE7 of course).

So, I am stuck. Have only seen one other post on the forum with this exact error, so far without response.

Can anyone help?

Hi Julian,

Exactly whaat are you trying to install?

Are you trying to install the Fingerprint Sensor Driver Version : 5.6.0.3278 which you can find HERE AT VAIO-LINK listed under Drivers -> Other?

Have you looked in Device Manager for your Fingerprint Sensor? You can update the driver or uninstall the previous driver there.

That is exactly what I trying to install.

As stated I receive a message from the installer, telling me I need to uninstall the previous version of biometric software. When I try the uninstall via Control Panel, I get the error message that I require IE5 or greater. Since I am on Vista and using IE7 there is obviously some problem with the uninstall info.

By the way - I tried uninstalling the previous driver via device manager. However, when I run the installer (for Protector Suite 5.6.0.3278) I still get the message that I need to uninstall the previous biometric software.

I have now fixed this problem. For the benefit of anyone else who encounters the same problem here is how I fixed it (info found using google).

Go to Club VAIO Support Downloads and download the Protector Suite 5.3 utility installer. (This is found under Pre-installed drivers section - the apps etc that the VAIO originally came with.)

Run the Protector Suite 5.3 installer - in my case this launched automatically into an install - I guess because I had tried to manually de-install the drivers and software
I then ran the Protector Suite 5.3 installer again and this time had the option to Repair or Remove the application - I selected Remove (and chose to delete all associated data - I had a backup of all this prior to upgrading to Vista)

Once that was done, I was able to run the Protector Suite 5.6 install and hve enrolled fingerprints and set up My Safe again.

So now everything is working fine with my Vaio after the Vista upgrade - this was the last thing to fix.
