Hi,
I have a PCG-K215M Laptop. I have a excellent mouse that I used to use on my desktop, until I went cordless. Rather than throw out this Samsung Optical (OMS3PB) I purchased an adaptor to convert to USB. Loaded the most up-to-date software from the web site and although the software loaded OK the mouse has the optical light working, but here is no movement with it, having to still use the pad. In Device Manager under the heading for the mouse everything is fine with no errors and stating the correct item. Under the USB section there is an entry as 'Unknown Device'. There is no yellow or red errors just the wording. I have un-installed/re-installed taken the mouse software out to re-boot to let it find the mouse on it's own. This found 'Alps pointing device for VAIO'. Under the mouse section but still had 'Unknown Device' under the USB tree. I have tried many permutations. I thought it was just a case of 'Plug It In' how wrong. Has anyone any tips or has done the same thing with a PS2/USB adaptor? Hope to get a reply. Thanks.
Alps pointing device for VAIO
Thanks seb21.
Maybe I will have to disable the pad to allow the mouse to work?
Has anyone got advice on working with a mouse and the pad association?
Hi SilverFox.
its very likely that what you are trying to do is not possible.
The mice that come with a PS/2 plug and an PS/2 to USB adapter plug do include the necessary electronics to detect which interface is used and to actually use it inside the mouse itself.
If the adapter you are using did not come with your mouse, its unlikely that this can work the way you want it to work.
While there are serial/PS/2 to USB adaptors, those that are actually working well are more expensive than any corded or cordless optical mouse.
I love my Logitech MX1000 as cordless optical mouse.
Hi Stephanius,
Thanks for the information. I guess I'll have to buy a proper USB mouse. Just trying to use redundant gear. Thanks once again.
