Hi, first of all sorry for my english.
I recently bought a VAIO F11, European version, without the backlit keyboard (obviously), but I have noticed that the notebook has a built-in ambient light sensor so I can, theoretically, replace the current keyboard with the american one.
Now,
1st question: is there someone who had the same idea and found a way to change the keyboard???
2nd question: does anyone know how it is structured the U.S. keyboard ???(I wonder if it is a 'single block' or if there is a membrane that covers the keys or something like this)
Thank you for any help.
Michael
Solved!!!
Hi there,
How did you do it???
Thanks
Carlos
Hi
Looks like a while ago you successfully tackled the same issue that I am about to attempt myself, that being changing a EU keyboard for a US backlit keyboard on my Viao F13.
How did you do it mate?
This is really easy to do guys...so follow Joe Bleau guide on changing F11 Keyboard. He explains where to buy the right model etc.
I am in Hong Kong so i bought one from China it cost me 8 pounds...So follow joes instructions you can find him on google..couple of extra hints. Once you have it apart do clean the fan it takes a second and you will be amazed at whats in there. Be careful of the speakers they are delicate!
The light cable needs installing contacts facing up. Once its installed and tested put machine back together. You need to change the keyboard mapping to US and then you will find if you S1 and click keyboard there wil lbe a backlight option for 10 30 and 45 seconds and on...make your choice. It is worth the money. Ebay had about 100 last time i looked. Mine matches colour and sepc and looks great. I use it on flights alot and it is really good!
So thanks to Joe. took me aout 15 minutes in total to do.
To change mapping go to control panel regions and language clcik keyoard..download us english and you are done
