Replace my DVD Drive.

Replace my DVD Drive.

I have a Sony Vaio RZ504 and recently the dvd drive stopped working.

I called Sony customer service and they said that they can't sell spare parts to public.
Only through technical people and minimum cost for the reparation is 200 euros.
Is very expensive ... now a dvd-drive is about 20 - 25 euros, and replace it is very easy.

Anyone can suggest me where to buy in internet the original SONY OEM dvd drive?

The model (reported in my computer properties)is :
HG-DT-ST-DVD ROM GDR8162B ... it should be an LG

Thank you very much.

From what I remember most standard drives fit in this model

Thank you Kee Loo.
I've replaced with a new lg dvd super multi gsa-4167b and everything is working ok.
The only (little) problem is that with this new drive, the activity CD led on the case stopped working (works only with the other original second drive).

Is there something that i can do ?

Thank you again.

Hi

This is probably due to a cable from the case to the DVD Drive.

I used the original IDE cable and i checked that the second drive has only the IDE cable and the power supply ... no other connection to the mainboard.

I'm afraid that there is something in the firmware of the drive.

Thank you again and best regards
