replace upgrade dvd drive

Hi,

My dvd-burner in a PCV-RX405 collapsed 2 days ago probably because I used for the first time 4x speed disks Now no
disk at all are recognized. Pioneer burners seem to have
to problem with old firmware. This is a pioneer dvdr-104
No upgrade for this oem seems to be available, tried several
from sony and also from pioneer but none work.

I want to replace the dvd burner with a new one, but
problem 1 to get out the old one, case open is no problem, burner is the upper part, how do I remove this properly because manual and visual give me headaches in not seeing how to get it out?

Second problem will be if I just can buy a new one and install this in the same place, are all cables, current etc appropriate?

I have searching all support sites but no clues available, only about memory, hard disk and slots. I hope you can help because buying support is much too expensive in this case.
I bought the desktop about 2 years ago new so support is finished by now

Tnx,

Jeroen

I want to get a new one also.
Last nights I finally managed to get the old one out.
Today I want to go shopping for a new one.
Any experience with current new drives, are all appropriate
in a pcv-rx405 ?

Tnx,

Jeroen

I think it's not a problem to use a other drive in your VAIO.

But Sorry I can't say you which DVD drive is better. But here are some examples.

BENQ (sounds that RICOH discs are good)
LG (sounds that it is a little bit laud, but I have read it's a excellent burner)

HTH (BTW, use Google to find more)
