Replacing fan

Hi,

I have a VAIO VGN-A215M laptop for almost two years now. Since a couple of months the fan is making a lot of noise (compared to when I just bought the laptop, then you almost couldn't hear the fan). I also notice that the cpu is getting hotter and hotter. Mobilemeter says the temperature is around 60° C.

Can I replace the fan by myself? Where to buy and how to change?

Or should I contact Sony? I've bought the warranty extension, but will they change the fan for free (as it's not really 'broken' at the moment...)?

Thanks for your help!

Hello
Try an american company called Nexttronics: www.nexttronics.com. They can supply you with a fan. You can fix it yourself, but it depends on what skill you have. Vaio's are full of strange little pieces of metal that never go back in their original place. Also the fan in my Z1 is bonded th the top of the processor so I cannot change my fan, noisy as it is.

Hi Carl Janssen,

As you vaio is getting hot, this could be caused by a build up of dust etc, before replacing the fan check the air vents are clear and try moving the internal dust by gently spraying with compressed air..:smileywink:

I've tried to remove the dust with compressed air today, but that didn't help much.

However, I'll check www.nexttronics.com for a new fan. Is there any information around about how to replace the fan? I mean: which parts do I have to open, etc.

In the meantime, I'll also check Sony support about replacing the fan. But I'm afraid they will not replace the fan for free, because it's not really broken, no?
