screen blank at start up

Hello all,
Hopefully someone can help me. My screen stays blank on my fz18l. On startup you can hear everything working but theres nothing happening on the screen, it stays turned off. My wife said a box flashed up on the screen saying something hasnt loaded and then went black and hasnt worked since.
Any ideas before i send it of

Hi heidil and welcome to Club Vaio.

Do you see the Vaio logo when you first turn your Vaio on?

Can you boot into safe mode - this will show if it is the video driver at fault.

1. Switch on your VAIO.
2. When you see the Sony logo, press F8 several times.
3. The boot menu will appear, select Safe Mode using the arrow keys, and then press ENTER.

If your Vaio opens with the default 640 X 480 VGA screen resolution, then go to Device Manager -> Display Adapters and uninstall the Video Driver. Reboot and see if the reinstalled video driver has fixed it.

If not, reboot into Safe Mode again and have a look at your System Error Logs for a clue.
