First Post here,
I am looking for help with some problems I am having with my screen. I switched on my laptop the other day and the screen came on white and stayed white (I am having to use AV out through my TV to use the net). Initially I was advised to delete all the display drivers from the device manager and then reboot as this would automatically locate the driver, this did not work, I have also downloaded the lastest driver for the ATI Mobility Radeon 9700 and installed it, again no effect. I took it to be repaired at PC world who told me it needed new screen! Can anyone help? If I do need a new screen, what is it likely to cost and where do I start?
Thanks in advance.
Hi Vic and welcome to the forum.
As you can use an external monitor that rules out any video adapter problem and ‘white’ suggests to me that the inverter and backlight are working, which would point to something in the LCD processing, ie connections, or mainboard to LCD circuitry, not necessarily the LCD itself.
If you do need to replace the LCD unit this will cost approx. $700 plus shipping (from the USA), but if you go to Sony for the repair then I hate to think what the charge would be…..
Thanks. Where do I start with getting somebody rliable to look at tt and provide a quote for the repair!
