slow start-up

Hi
I have a FS515H series,and recently is taking what seems ages to start-up, approx 2-3mins, also the windows sound is distorted.Ive tried disc defragmenter but it is still the same.
please help. :smileysad:.

Hi ginger42 and welcome to Club Vaio.

It sounds like your FS515H needs a good spring clean. There have been so many updates and changes recently, your Registry is probably looking for all sorts of stuff that has been moved or removed.

Download the 30 day free version of TUNE-UP UTILITIES and run all the hard disc, Windows and Registry optimisations. Also use the Startup Manager to prevent any unnecessary programs running automatically at startup.

Sound distortions can again be caused by a lot of things. There have been a lot of changes to WMP and DRM downloads generally. Hopefully Tune-Up will help. The other thing that can cause distorted sound in Windows is too much Hardware Acceleration. Have a look in Control Panel -> Sounds and Audio Devices -> Audio -> Playback -> Advanced -> Performance and see if there is the facility to reduce Hardware Acceleration or turn it off.

Is 2-3 minutes really that long a start up? obviously the more programs that you instal and have standard settings starting them up in the bacground (like Microsoft office) the slower it will be on start up, but I wouldn't be too concerned by 3 minutes, g make a cup of tea while it's booting
