Has anyone tried usingg the new version of sonicstage with the viao? are they compatable or would it be safer to stay with version 3. As i really can't be arsed t have to re rip 80+ gigs of music to my hard drive if it crashes. ta.

Hi.
I use SS 4 on my Vaio S3XP laptop with my Vaio Pocket. I upgraded from version 3.4.
It installed fine, and runs fine, I have had no crashes or problems.
To be honest, I've never had any problems with SonicStage, judging by the numerous complaints on various forums, I count myself lucky.

thnaks for the reply. Out of interest, in your opioion was it worth upgrading? I think i read somewhere that the internal database is now a lot quicker? any significant changes that you have found?

It looks a little nicer with nicer splash screen :smileygrin:
But I haven't noticed much in the way of performance improvement over 3.4 (which I found to be noticeably speedier than previous versions)
I guess the additions and 'improvements' over 3.4 are primarily aimed at the newer genrations of ATRAC players. Artist link, high encoding rates etc. etc.

if i install cp4.0 version, do i have to format my vp?
this stands for upgrading from older versions of sonicstage.

I was expecting this too, but I didn't have to format the Vaio Pocket when I upgraded.

i took the plung and so far no problems. Viao works fine. can't really tell the difference. Except it looks a bit nicer.

Ive had a terrible time with it, brand new vaio laptop and upgraded as suggested in the email from 3.4 to 4.0. It has stalled and crashed three times in the last hour when playing tracks, navigating etc.

Seems to be off trying to contact gracenote a lot as well. Also for some reason it felt the need to reimport all my 20 gig of music which took much longer in 3.4.

All in all id say stay clear of 4.0

It works fine but have 2 vital defects for me:

1. It does not understand my "various artists" albums like soundtracks. Seperates all tracks as one album.

2. It seems like it does not read all info from id3v1-2 tags. I do not understand what it uses exactly. Need a good editor.

wishes:
Album art view on player screen in small mode. Bigger the art wiev the better. Adding tags to songs for a possible DJ feature. No moodlogic please.
