Sony Drive type??? Sony DW-D56A

Hi,
How can I tell which type of optical drive my laptop has. There is an update for Sony DW-D56A available, but I don't know if that is what I have or not?
Thanks
Phil

Remember though, do NOT use this update in any case, I have done this and my computer is now going to the repair centre!!! Beware of this update, it has either not been tested properly in my opinion!

Too late

Seems ok...but I was keen to do it as my drive seems to struggle with burning/reading any CD-R or especially DVD+RW I try now, complaining the disc was faulty.

I tried 6 different DVD+RW and get errors while burning (pre firmware update and since) .

So I reckon my DVD drive is shagged already after only a few months.

I hope Sony fix this problem. I would pay nothing for any repair.:smileyangry:Because the update has make this problem and not you. You have nothing to do with the maybe poor Sony programmer.

So what exactly happened?
Mine read two discs just before going to repair!
Incredible and stupid, as it struggled after the update and had to be changed anyway..
Life's so much funnier without the computer at home, hehe..
Hope they will fix it for you!
Take care of your Vaio or get a life, without it! haha
