Hi guys,
how warm / hot are your Vaios in general? I mean the aproximate temperature of the CPU / harddisk (HDD).
At the moment the temperature of my Vaio is about:
CPU: 41°C
HDD: 62°C
Applications, which are running at the moment:
- Internet Explorer / Mozilla
- Firewall
- MS Outlook
But, when I run Photoshop, manipulating and editing digital pictures, the CPU and HDD temperatures increase enormous.
CPU: 47°C
HDD: 72°C
And when I render my videos with an encoding software, the CPU and HDD temperatures increase much higher.
CPU: 86°C
HDD: 57°C
The rendering procedure will take in general about 2 - 3 hours.
Are those temperatures ok / normal? Or are those temperatures critical?
I will be pleased, if you gonna post your temperature (CPU, HDD) of your Vaios here.
I have the Sony VAIO PCG GRT816S since December 2003, and I already checked the fan. There's no dust.
BTW: Where can I find the search function of this forum? Any ideas?
bye, Mustang
Hehehe
Hi guys,
I don't think that sony will take my vaio for reparing / cleaning dust.
Ok, if I'm gonna open the laptop (of course not the whole stuff), will they recognize / realize it?
I think you mean "you're damned if you do and you're damned if you don't"
hi dude...
i have a grt816m and i have removed my backpanel numerous times to clean my fans an heat pipe... if you are up to to it do the following.
1. remove backpanel... unscrew on left by the memstick port
2. remove center screw right above keyboard
3. remove sheet-metal on the right side
4. remove the fan mount with both fans and observe the dust in between, underneath and inside of fan-mount.
clean carefully
remount all steps
be carefull with the flatwire connections inside the backpanel... they break very easily...

Hi Peter,
do I need some special screw driver? I mean for the screws inside.
It's gonna be my first time to open a laptop.

Servus Mustang.
I'm no expert, however opened my GRV516G several times for
dust cleaning. Avoid using force when removing the panel
on top of the keyboard. It has to be moved ca 5mm to the left before you can lift it.
Concerning the screws: have a close look at the screw left side by the memstick port and you see what kind of screwdriver you need.
Much success
Günter
hi mustang...
does your GRT816S feel like its running to slow for its speed or does the recognition of devices take to much time... i have compared my GRT816M to my GRT785B and for shure the GRT785B is faster and reacts much quicker to device than the GRT816M does...
Joe
Hi guys,
@mangold
thanks for the advice. It seems to be the same solution as Joe's.
@Joe
I don't really know if its running slower than before. It just going to be too hot and the fans went louder.
Compared to your Vaios, why is the GRT785B faster than the GRT816M??? Are there some other significant components?
cu, Mustang
hi,
this is because of the shredded down bios. sony blocks or eliminates a lot of bios setup possibilities and functions which in turn causes the operating system to sort of stumble over diversions and delays when it comes to device configs and operation.
Joe
Hi,
this is really peculiar that the GRT816M model is slower than the GRT785B.
Could it be that the software may react difference, because of lots dead DLLs?
