I have taken the cd rom out and re inserted and put in a cd and it is booting up but no being recognised on the laptop any more?

WIndows cannot load the driver and says error and I cannot find one to replace and try any ideas

Can you post a screenshot of Device Manager?

Are you saying that there is no entry for CD/DVD-ROM DRIVE showing at all - just the Mass Storage Controller?  The Mass Storage Controller is usually the Memory Card slots.

Error Code 10 is the last resort code when Windows knows there is an error but cannot tell you what the problem is.
