Hi
I was wondering if anyone could help me. I have a 3 year old Vaio which I've decided to upgrade to Vista Ultimate. The upgrade seems to have gone through fine, but there are some items that don't work on it now and wonder what drivers are available. Will the XP ones indeed work? Does anyone have any experience of upgrading this model. It would be good to get the internal bluetooth device working and to enable the PC to use it's Card Bus Adapter so that I could install a Vista compatible wireless device. I also think I would need a new pointing device driver? Anyone's advice would be greatly appreciated.
Regards
Simon
Hi Simon and welcome to Club Vaio.
I doubt if many will try to upgrade a Z1. Although you can expand the memory to 1GB the ATI Mobility Radeon M6-C16 graphics just can't handle Aero (and arguably this is the only good thing about Vista).
Driver support is going to be a problem - Sony wil not be supporting Vista on this model - you will have to try the XP Drivers or go to the Manufacturers website to see if Vista drivers exist.
You will find the Vista touchpad driver by Googling for Alps Pointing Device for Vaio.
I'm not confident about the Yamaha YMF753-S soundcard.
You can try Intel for chipset drivers for Intel FW82801-DBM + 82562ET
You obviously enjoy a challenge!!!
Hi
Thanks for your quick response. Yes, I think it will certainly be a challenge. The soundcard seems to work fine. All the right sounds are coming out of the speakers anyway! I haven't tested the USB ports yet, but hopefully they'll work.
I presume if I installed the Bluetooth driver for XP, if it didn't work I could uninstall it? With regard to the Card Bus Adapter, I'll have to see. Are you talking about that with regard to the Intel Chip Set?
