Sony Vaio VGN-CS21S faulty screen.

I have had a Sony Vaio for a few years and it has been in for repair on two occassions because of a faulty screed (the screen is basically black and can be sometimes seen very feint on boot up).

It can ony be used by plugging in an external monitor and viewing through that.

The first repair was within the warranty period  (it worked fine for a few months) and the second was out of the warranty but was  repaired  again free of charge(but again only worked for a few months), do you think it would be possible to get it repaired again for free as the laptop is working fine apart from this annoying ongoing issue? Also is this a common known fault for this model as scouting around the net has come back with a lot of similar cases?

Try these steps.

Step 1 - Make sure the brightness is adjusted up. When powering on your laptop. On your keyboard there should be a display adjuster key at the top. Usually a combination of fn+f7, or fn+f8 (hp laptop example). It should have sign for it. Look for it.

If no go, proceed to step 2.

Step 2 - Try powercycling your laptop. Turn off the computer > disconnect the power cord > remove battery > hold down power button (with no power to it) for about 10 seconds.

Connect the battery back in and plug the cord back in and see if it shows the lights. If no go, proceed to step 3.

Step 3 - Connect another monitor to your laptop. If it shows an image when you turn on your laptop, then it's your screen. The backlight went out. Call Sony to replace it if it's still in warranty.
