I think I have just about installed all my drivers and utilities after downgrading to XP, but under device manager I am yet to find a way to install the ethernet controller, video controller and video controller (VGA Compatible). They are the only ones now that have a question mark next to them. I know I have to install them through the device manager but I am not too sure how. Would someone be able to give me a step by step guide, I would be very grateful!
I found the drivers and utilities for it from another post in this forum: http://club.vaio.sony.co.uk/clubvaio/GB/en/forum/viewthread?thread=45485&offset=0 Kudos to Blencogo (ClubVAIO Expert), you have saved my life!!!!!
Hi angelic complication and welcome to Club Vaio.
The way to install these drivers which are without a Setup.exe is, as you say, to install them from Device Manager.
In Device Manager, right-click on the unknown device and choose 'Update Driver'.
Choose 'No, not this time' -> 'Install from List or Specific Location' -> 'Don't Search, I will choose a driver to install' -> 'Have Disc' and browse to the folder with the driver you have downloaded.
Windows will find the installer .inf file and install the driver.
For the Network Controller it will look in the 'Network' folder for yk51x86.inf and for the Video driver it will look in 'Video' for ialmnt5.inf.
You may have to reboot after each installation - but I confess I am not sure if this is necessary.
Good Luck
Hello there, thank you very much for your reply.
I need more help though if you don't mind because I get to "I will choose what driver to install" and then I am lost. It asks me to select a "Hardware type." For the Video Controller and Video Controller(VGA Compatible) I select "Sound, Video and Game Controllers" but then I do not know what to select after that. That though based on me selecting "Sound, Video and Game Controllers" is right. I am not too sure!
Hiya,
When you get to the screen that asks you to select a hardware type, DO NOTHING and just click on 'Have Disc'.
At the next screen click on 'Browse'and navigate to the downloaded 'Video' folder containing the driver.
Repeat for the Network driver.
Hope it works OK but if you have any queries just come back - it's not straightforward!
