Sony Vaio VGN-S3XP has been withdrawn why?

:slight_frown: At the moment I'm a proud owner of the Sony S2XP and I was extremely tempted to sell and upgrade to the latest S3XP anyway having spoken to Sony to enquire about the machine I was told that "the machine is no longer available due to marketing reasons" eh... Some one tell me if I'm wrong but I have only noticed this machine recently maybe 2-3 months at the most why pull it so early. Clearly you can no longer buy this laptop as Sony doesn¿t even offer you the price on their website.

All you owners of the S3XP are you having any problems? Why would Sony pull the plug on a machine with the latest Intel Technology that yet has so much to offer to the consumer?

Are Sony planning a total re-vamp of the S Series machine to combat heat problems and noisy fans that I have read quite allot about. If any one has heard any news about this model I will be curious to here. Thanks.

yeh, i have realised that after i bought mine and there seems to be hundreds still on sale from other re sellers like www.ebuyer.com At first i was having difficulties on getting hold of the S2VP but the supposed replacement the S3XP was cheaper, presumably because of the graphics card. the thing is the S Series has been out for a few years now with no modifications to the chassis/casing, the optical drive is slow in comparison to lets say 'fresher' models, i assumed it would be updated and didnt check into it all that much as i needed a new notebook so bad after waiting out for the S2VP then decided to wait longer for the S3 i didnt care!
in terms of new models on SonyStyle HK they have an S Series with a smaller screen... amongst others i think, if i remember correctly.

Having recently posted a thread on this forum asking why the new VGN-S3XP had been withdrawn I have made a new discovery. I spoke to a gentleman at Sony style UK and he advised me that the machine had not been withdrawn; just they did not have any in stock. The new VGN-S3XP he say sold out so fast they did not expect this to happen. As a result of this they are now trying to persuade customers to buy the VGN-S3VP until they get more of the other in stock. Advisors at Sony Style UK work on commission so don¿t let them try and sell you something you don¿t want.

The problem by the S3 is, it's a tiny laptop with to much power. The fast DDR2-RAM and the 2GHz CPU (S3XP) isn't the best choice for a laptop like these. Maybe it's wronge, but Consumer which buy S3 laptop needs more mobility than Power. I think Sony has ignored that. That's the reason why the S3 is not a brilliant laptop. It's a cook-plate. And that is a little bit sad.

Well said Seb, it's too much for a tiny case like that.

Prepare to be cooked if you use it on your lap.

I think it is a sad excuse, the VP version of the S3 is an speced down version of the XP. Why would u buy a lesser spec system when for like 200 u can buy the high spec one. Most people will go all the way if they gonna spend a small fortune anyway. THAT's SONY marketing reason/fault.

LOL, maybe that's on of the reason why I have bought a DSC-L1 digital camera. And not a P93.

Foxhound,

Probably because they don't want a hotplate
