Sony VAIO VGN-Z56GG screen problem

Hi, my Sony VAIO VGN-Z56GG has aproblem with the screen.

For some reason it is very dark, I can just make out stuff on the screen but not enougth to use it.

If I plug it into a monitor it works fine.

Any ideas?

Thanks.

Hi olryst,

This usually indicates a backlight failure, lose connector cable, or more usually an inverter problem.

Can the backlight or inverter be replaced on there own or do I need to get a new screen?

Both can be replaced individually without the need for a new screen.

The inverter is the rectangular circut board under screen?

Where is the backlight located?

Yes, the inverter is usually rectangular with connectors at both ends and normally located at the bottom of the screen.

The blacklight(s) are behind the LCD screen.
