Stalling audio and video

I've been having problems with my VAIO, new in November 2011, with audio and video sort of scrambling. It doesn't happen all the time but I can be watching a video and periodically the sound and video play back scramble before returning to normal. The only way I can think to descibe it is a sort of digital gurgling, all the sound is played, its not skipping or jumping anything. This problem happens with all types of audio and video playback. Has anyone else had this problem? I've updated all drivers so I'm thinking this is probably a hardware fault? With the graphics card maybe? Any suggestions would be welcome before I get in touch for repairs! Thanks.

Hi mhari17,

I seem to remember that this problem can sometimes be caused by enabled enhancements. This may have nothing to do with the issue and this may not be an available option for your model but it is worth checking out.

Open device Manager > Sounds, right click the default device and select Properties. Click the Enhancements tab and check ‘Disable all sound effects’.

If that makes no difference and as your Vaio is still in warranty contact Support for further suggestions. Unfortunately they will probably suggest returning your machine to factory setting in order to rule out any third party applications that may be the cause of the problem.

Thanks very much for the suggestion. I've tried that and still have the problem. Its been like this almost since the day I got it but I was so busy I never found the time to try and get it sorted. Im thinking that probably means it is a hardware fault. I'll get in touch with support and see what they have to say. Thanks though!

One futher thought...

Check that both video and audio drivers are up to date. You haven't stated your model so I can't give you a link but click the Support tab at the top of this page and select online support. Search for any updates for your OS.
