Start up/Shut down

I have just bought a VGN-S4XP and I find that it takes an age to start up and shut down. Is this normal? And is there anything that can be done to speed it up?

U have to check if the programs are correctly closed on shut down , on start up its normal if slow on battery as it is on main, programs to accelerate will decrease your battery lifetime so u have to live with it!

Download Mike Lin Startup manager, disable any application that u dont use, and u can enable them back again, its a great program, he won awards for it. http://www.mlin.net/StartupCPL.shtml

and from Yahoo messenger preferences, uncheck stat with windows because this slows down the PC a lot!
