Strange Problem with my Vaio FR315M
Hi there fellow Vaio Users.
Four days ago I turned my laptop on and when it started booting up it beeped madly at me for a minute and then stopped. But when it booted up the icons on the desktop and any windows that I opened started flickering. I then tried to open a document via a My Documents window and in the file name a letter found next to 'W' & above 'A' kept on scrolling along. Its like this letter had a mind of its own & subsuently when I try to press this letter it doesn't work.
I have scanned the computer for viruses, spyware adware etc and to no surprise it has come back clean. Does anybody have any ideas before I speak to Vaio direct??
Oh the computer still beeps when I turn it on but not as much. When I turn it on under mains power it won't boot up first time round so I have to turn it off and then back on. When I boot it up off battery it works first time (but still beeps)!!
Thanking you in anticipation

You have got a strange problem there scubadiver!
The first thing that comes to mind is that the Q key is stuck on ¿ this would certainly explain the beeping at startup but I cannot connect this with the other symptoms, especially the boot problem when on AC power. Nevertheless it may be worth trying some compressed air on the key.

Hey Scubie,
Have to agree with Rich, sounds like one of the keys on the left there is sticking, which can be a reason why it's beeping - like a "stop leaning on the keyboard" sort of noise.

Well I have tried the compressed air thingy several times and to no avail. So that button before W is still stuck down.
Reckon it could be something wrong with the contacts underneath?? You reckon the key can just be prised (albeit gently) off?? Hope you can help before I have to call Sony.o<]
Although I have stopped that annoying beeping noise when the computer is turned on - I leave the speakers turned off!!:smileylaugh: [[-

The beeping at BOOT UP comes from the speakers, not the on-board speaker?? Please clarify dude, this may be important.

Ermmm that's not the problem as the beeping is from the button being stuck down. Yes it does come from the onboard speakers if I unplug the external speakers.
The point now is - can I safely remove the key myself thats causing all the problems!!!
