Time & Date

My laptop keeps periodically resetting my date and time to the factory setting. Any ideas as to why it may be doing this and how to rectify the problem would be greatly appreciated.

Hi

Welcome to the forum

I would scan for viruses and Spyware but It could be that the CMOS battery is playing up..

Have you had a look to see if there are any patches or updates for your machine at Vaio-Link ? There may be a fix for that particular problem.

Hi Samim and welcome to the forum.

You haven’t stated the model or age of your Vaio notebook -is it still in warranty?

These symptoms can be indicative of a failing CMOS battery (as pointed out by Twisted-Rizla). Unfortunately the only way, that I am aware of, to verify this is to physically remove the battery and either have it checked out or simply replace it.

If you let us know your model number possibly someone will be able to provide disassembly instructions – assuming that it is not longer covered by the Sony warranty that is.
