Upgrade RAM.

I am at a point where I need to upgrade my RAM on my VGN-FZ21Z Vaio.

RAM memory specs: DDR2-PC2-5300 (SO-DIMM) 667Mhz.

The maximum memory that can be utilized is 3GB. I have 2x1GB installed.

Is it better to upgrade to 2x2GB (4GB total) or 1x1GB & 1x2GB (3GB total). As my Vaio will only be able to use 3GB maximum - then why install 4GB as 1GB will be wasted? Or can under Win7.00 (32bit) OS - more than 3GB of memory be used?

Also can different frequencies be used for e.g. more than 667Mhz or a combination of higher and lower frequencies?

I am thinking of installing 3GB total as my Vaio can only utilize 3GB maximum.

All help appreciated, thanks in advance.

Hi sm.,

3GB is a limit of the 32bit OS. If you upgraded to a 64bit OS you could utilise the full 4GB that is max supported for your model.

Quite honestly as you can buy 2 x 2 GB modules for just over £40 and memory works best in matched pairs this would be your best option.
