Upgrading?

I've had my PCV-RX401(CE) for a couple of years now, and I wanted to upgrade it.
My friend said that some computers aren't upgradable.
So are Sony computers upgradable?

I also want to add a new hard drive, the PC only came with two 20GB hard drives.
I'm going to get a 160, now will all the operating systems be on the discs that I got with the PC?
And the new HD is a Hitachi, will that be okay? The discs say only works with a Sony.

Thanks for any replies.

Hi Terry001,

Welcome to the forum!

I had a look on the specs of this PC and a 2gig proccesor ain't too bad,

As you are out of warranty you could UG a few bits.

If you save all your needed files onto one of the 20gig hard drives you could then install the new one as a slave and just save all new stuff on to that.

The Ram could be upgraded too. you can go up to a maximum of 1536 Meg

This will make the most difference to the speed.

your graphics card looks ok and you have some nice connections on the PC so I would leave that alone.

If you want more, spend the money on a new PC instead.

Hope this helps

Chris.

Thanks very much for the info.
I'm not very knowlegeable with computers, but I'll show this post to my friend, who will be helping with a few changes.
Out of interest, do you have a link to the specs of this model?

The 20Gb is perfect for a system drive, whereas the 160GB can be used for pure storage.

As for the specs, it's not a bad PC out of the box.
