I have had a load of problems recently with a Vaio VGN-AW11ZB. The following message kept coming up:
USB Device Not Recognised: One of the USB devices attached to this computer has malfunctioned and windows does not recognise it.
Also, I occasionally got the blue screen of death with the message Bugcode_USB_Driver.
I am running Windows 7 Home Premium, and had downloaded all latest Viao drivers. I tried system repair and system restore, all to no avail. I emailed Vaio support who were worse than useless. They said that they did not support Win 7 on this machine, and to use the recovery discs to reinstall the original factory configuration. I did this, but the fault was still there.
I'm now suspecting a hardware fault, and after surfing many forums, I discovered the answer. It couldn't have been more simple! Just disconnect the power lead and remove the battery. Leave the machine powered down for a few minutes till all capacitors are fully discharged, then power it up again - problem solved!
Apparently, this can happen if a USB port becomes overloaded with excessive current draw, or if you remove a usb device without first selecting remove hardware. I feel that Vaio support should have known this, and should not simply have fobbed me off with a dismissive "we don't support Win 7 on this machine".

I have the same set of problems with a VGN-FW31E - with Windows 7 Premium - a recent OS update has rendered my USB devices as useless - not regognising any device connected (with Unknown Device Error - code 43). Happened once before and I rolled back and the config - and even after the OS upgrade it continued working. Has now happened again, this time I can't recover back to a previous date.
Both times it coincided with an Apple IOS update which resulted in my I-Phone being whipped and rendered useless. So am well and truely stuffed.
This is clearly a driver related problem (tied in with Windows 7) and something that Sony need to resolve.
So Sony do you have a solution for me?
The "remove battery" trick works for me, I discovered it a few days ago. It does however fail quite regularly these days and did not fail once in the 1st year of owning the device - now it's every few days. Must be a driver problem.
