Hi all,
I have been trying to find out exactly what CPU is installed in my Vaio FR415B notebook, the sony site itself does'nt list the full spec for the CPU. Also although sony spec states the CPU is Intel Celeron 2.8, according to intel this CPU does not exist? So, have Sony made a mistake on the spec for this machine?
Can anyone put me in the right direction. I need a replacement CPU for my notebook, I plan on getting a used one, as new ones probably are anyway not available. I need to know the full detail on the CPU manufacturer and CPU ident number
Thanks Ian
Hi Ian,
Sony are correct in the specifications. The Celeron 2.8GHz processor was the 'budget' version of the Intel 'Northwood P4' Socket-478 Processor.
It is now 'retired' but the full specifications are still on the Intel website here: -

It definitely existed:

One for peanuts here on eBay (6 days to go!!):

Good Luck in your search - if all else fails, a P4 will fit!!
Hi, thanks very much for the information, and finding one on offer on Ebay, I'll keep an eye on it. But if neccessary I could also get a Intel Pentium 4 Processor.
I have already trie at one time too open my Vaio laptop but did'nt suceed, have you some experience with this? Once all the casing screws are out is there a particular technique to getting the covers apart?
Thanks Ian
