Vaio PCG-F801 Wireless Lan Problem

G'Day!

I still got an old Vaio - and I got a problem connecting to the Internet (I'm using my new Vaio here VGN-A215M).
Or more correct - I do get contact and for about 10 to 15 minutes everything is just fine... - but than it just stops! The Software shows no problems - but I can not open the windows xp software showing the status (which I can as long as the first 10 minutes contact the the internet). I have to boot down waite awhile and than everything folws the same pattern...
I checked with my broadband provider - no problems on their side...
some laptop parameters:
windows xp with sp2
188 MB RAM
amd K6 Processor
531 MHz
Netgear USB Sick MA111
Siemens se515 router

Thanks for your help!!

Why don't we all shut up?

This has become pointless :smileyrolling_eyes:

Sorry Rich!

I did not mean to disappoint you!
But as much as you like to say your opinion - I do!

We all go OTT at times, but keep it civil and others will respond likewise.

It's a mystery to me why low kee can just be as unfriendly as hell - and that s just fine... are you scared of him?
or do you call:

"You really are stupid"

friendly?
or

The problem with people like you is you set out to hate people, jealous are you? Sad when people are jealous.

a real nice gesture?

there are allways to sides to a story...

laters...

ps - what is OTT for?

You have disappointed me molasse, again you throw insults at those that would be more than willing to help if you were able to keep a civil tongue in your head.
Ok, you did not initially understand the guidelines of this forum but once having them pointed out to you a simple apology would have done the trick ¿ we are all new to forums at some stage and learn as we go along. For some reason you choose to alienate one and all.
Sorry that it didn¿t work out for you ¿ it does for most

OK, lets have a reality check for you, and don't be scared to say yes Club VAIO

Am I (Kee-Lo) unfriendly as hell?

If you think yes, just say it.

No Kee-Lo, unfriendly is not you or this forum. I would like to think that this thread is all a dreadful misunderstanding but I am no longer sure:smileysad:

Kee-Lo, you are generally friendly and very helpful. Right now though I think you are making a mountain out of a molehill - lets just let it lie (as Vic & Bob might say).

There's pleanty I could say about him, but I haven't, though he goes and insults me for helping people out, and saying get a life - well I'd like to tell him a few things, but due to them being not nice I don't want to, and it'll upset other members, but his elitist attitude annoys me. Why doesn't he help? Because he's the unfriendly one.

I'm going to ignore you now, you're boring me, and really I have better to do than hear you critise me, and my work here.

Find something to do on your VAIO

Good, I'm glad that's sorted and we can all be friends again

As far as the original question goes, firstly I would say that the laptop seems a little underpowered to be running Win XP, both in terms of processor and memory.

It seems you are connecting wirelessly. In this case I would suspect that there is a problem with the WiFi card (a little obvious I know). Perhaps you could check to see if there are any power saving options checked - it could be something as simple as Windows turning off the power.

Other problems mentioned on this forum have been due to problems with firewalls, but if you are connecting at all I don't think it can be this. Can you tell us whether there is a problem with the signal? How far are you from the router?

Hey Ho!!

Thanks for the welcome and thanks for the advice...
your advice was not a 100% my solution - but
it brought me into the right direction!
the netgear adapter has a plastic piece between
the actual adapter and the cable going towards the computer
(not the security cap, a piece of transparent plastic, you put the plastic over the adapter and the usb cable through a hole in the plastic into the adapter) I had a insulate contact there - if I m not using the plastic bit - it's just fine... so there actually was a power supply problem.
I was online fo almost an hour - my maximum before was 20 minutes - but then it disconnected again... the netgear adapter is quite hot - maybe it s just broken because of the insulate contact? the computer runs on a maximum of 11MBit/sec (while my vgn-a215m runs on 54MBits/sec) - after it "disconnects" it still shows a 2MBit/sec connection - but it does not tranfer anymore data - just the white can't connect to server page...

yes - maybe winXP is a little OTT for the computer - but I changed the operating system because I had the same problem using win98secEd...
The distance to the router is 3 meters - same as far/close as this machine is (vgn)....

if none of yous got anymore ideas - I gues the adapter is the prob,,,
I ll check anotherone!

Again!
Thanks for the help!
