Vaio Start Up Screen freezes

Hey guys,

I am just wondering if anyone can help a computer iliterate person!!

Upon pressing the power button the Vaio logo appears on screen and laptop makes a bleeping noise. Normally straight from this the 'Windows XP' symbol appears with timer indicating its loading. Well... more and more frequently the laptop freezers on the Vaio logo and does not go any further!

Further to this, and possibly connected, when Windows XP does load, and I get to the Windows 'Welcome Log On' screen the mouse/touchpad doesn't work!!

Can anyone help??

Are you able to boot in safe mode.?

To enter safe mode restart your Vaio and when you see the Vaio logo press the F8 key repeatedly..

Yes, booted in Safe Mode. I was told that this might stop it in future but it did not :o(.
