Hi all,
I have a Vaio VGN-AR21M running Windows xp media center.
I have downloaded what appears to be the newest version of the "Vaio Update v5.1.1.04090" programme to replace the one installed on the laptop which is version 3.0.00.11250 and which no longer works. Unfortunately when I try to uninstall the old version I get the following message:
"An installation support file could not be installed. The system cannot find the file specified."
Help appreciated to uninstall please
Thank you in advance
Vic
Evening Blencogo,
I've got no problem editing the registry and have done as suggested.
Both versions are listed in the registry but its always version 3 that runs and not version 5 so have deleted version 3 and rebooted. Version 5 then starts on bootup. Went into Windows Explorer and deleted the version 3 folder so only version 5 is available (Vaio Update 5) and rebooted again. All ok.
As a point of interest. In "Add/Remove", Vaio Update v3 is only 0.32 MB in size whereas Vaio Update v5 is 17.33 MB. Unable to remove Vaio Update v3 from the list so both versions are listed.
Anyway it has listed several updates so hopefully it'll be ok.
Many thanks to you Blencogo and also to Thalamus. Much appreciated
Kind regards
Vic
Congratulations - it sounds like a good result.
