After connecting a USB device all USB ports failed after checking I did a system restore to no avail. Nothing is seen when pluged in. I have used different devices!!. I can confirm that the USB ports are not powered. BIOS checked and set up is OK. Any help please. The PC is only about 13 months old

Hi lester, welcome to the ClubVAIO.

What for a device, do you have connected?

Have you checked that the USB-ports are active?

1. start the system configuration
2. system
3. hardware
4. Devices managers
5. go to the "USB-Controller"
6. there you can see all your USB-ports--------->

-------->you would have to see :

USB-Root-Hub
USB universal Hostcontroller
and may be, an USB extended Hostcontroller (excuse, I have a german WinXP)
All Controllers and Root-Hubs must be active.
You can't activate a Root-Hub, if is the pertinent Controller deactive.

First activate the Hostcontroller and after this the pertient Root-Hub.

Dont't forget:
the maximal energy consumption for an USB device is limited.

100 mA directly from the USB-port
500 mA from a USB-port with external current supply.

Devices with higher energy consumption, need own current supply.
(Ahhrg, excuse me for my grammar)

I agree with Kee-Lo.

all active + no function = broken mainboard (äh, I hope not):smileysad:

may be, something scorched.
