I have owned a Sony VGN-A517M for just over one month now.
Since I first turned it on I have used the wireless optical mouse. Having recently tried to revert to the touchpad I found several difficulties which continue to exist even with the wireless optical mouse turned off. From launch the first touch of the finger to the touchpad is akin to a double-click and a select box automatically appears. In addition when I try to double click (pad or left-button) on anything on the desktop instead of opening, a promt opens asking if I would like to open this item or explore - it should just start automatically. The right mouse-button does not bring up shortcut menus as expected.
I have tried everything I can think of - uninstalled drivers, reinstalled drivers and played around with every possible setting for the mouse properties. Lastnight I even done a full system restore but the problem still exists. I imagine it must be something simple. Pray God someone help. My OCD is getting worse!
Cheers,
Beans
Hi Beans and welcome to the forum.
This is a strange problem. You say that you have re-installed the drivers etc., but is the touchpad recognised as such in Device Manager or is a PS/2 mouse listed?
Rich,
Cheers for helping out.
The device location says that it is plugged into the PS/2 mouse port. Should this be so?
Cheers,
Beans
Maybe Rich can give you a definitive answer but if something had gone wrong a full restore should have sorted it out.
On my TR5 the Alps touchpad is listed under "Mouse and Other pointing devices" and reported as Plugged into PS/2 Mouse Port.
I am using Alps Driver 6.0.304.5 which I got off the net because the preinstalled driver lacked most of the advanced functions my old Vaio touchpad had.
EDIT Thinking about it - Did you install mouse drivers for your Optical mouse and again after recovery, as this may be the culprit?
I have a feeling that this is the root of your problem as this should be listed as a PS/2 pointing device, not a PS/2 mouse.
In Device Manager right click the PS/2 mouse and select delete. Then re-boot and let Windows discover and install the correct drivers for the touchpad.
William,
Could u direct me to where I could get Alps Driver 6.0.304.5? Can't seem to find it on their site.
Cheers dude.
I did a Google for "Alps touchpad driver" and chose the newest and that was over a year ago.
I've done a search for this however no later drivers come up as available. Would you by chance still have that driver package? If so I'd really like to get it.
Alps website is less than useless and the only manufacturer who gets regular updates seem to be Dell however I'm not 100% sure that they would be compatible.
Please let me know if you still have your v6 driver set.
Cheers
Neil
I'd really like the V6 too - my touchpad is still giving me jip!
The Alps V6.0.305.5 driver is available from Toshiba. The address is http://support.toshiba-tro.de/tools/Tecra/ta3-s2/win-xp/tpdrv-ta3-xp-603055.zip
Might be worth a try.
