Hi,

Can anyone else tell me if they had experienced any faults with their laptop screens? I had my laptop for 3 years and last year my screen started to blank when its running. Since then it then started to experience the matrix style dots on the screen and now the screen is totally dead. I noticed that i'm not the only one to have experienced this fault as one of my other friends who had their FZ series laptop for 2 years and it too did the same thing. Or it me or there is an unknown fault with this series when sold? Does anyone know how much would it cost to get it fixed as well?

Sony have recently released a statement confirming that some Vaio models can have distorted video, random characters or blank screen issues due to failure of the NVIDIA graphics chip.

The models concerned are as follows..

VGN-FZ11x, VGN-FZ18x, VGN-FZ21x, VGN-FZ31x, VGN-FZ38x
VGN-AR11x, VGN-AR21x, VGN-AR31x
VGN-C1Zx, VGN-C2Zx
VGC-LM1xx, VGC-LM2xx
VGC-LT1xx, VGC-LT2xx

Open Vaio support, either by clicking Support at the top of this page or use the following link:Vaio support

Under Log-in option 2: Select your VAIO model, next to Select Model Category - Select your model from the drop down list, in your case VGN FZ.

Then next to Select Model - select FZ11Z

Then click Log-IN

Once logged in copy & paste - Distorted video, random characters or blank screen issues due to failure of the NVIDIA graphics chip into the search box and click on the search magnifying glass.

Under the words Useful Links, click on Distorted video, random characters or blank screen issues due to failure of the NVIDIA graphics chip

Once you've read the statement I suggest you contact vaio support because if your vaio has a faulty nVidia chip then the repair should be free of charge, even if your vaio's out of warranty..
