vgn-fz38m nvidia graphics chip issue

Can anyone give me some info about the issue with this chip as i have tried to look at the sony support page for help and it seems they have put something about it under hot news but when i click on it all i get is "sorry but you do not have sufficent access privileges to reach this site". Am i doing something wrong? Or is it so important you need access privileges.... Hopefully it means sony will fix it for free

Hi davricha10,

You will need to telephone Vaio Support on the Out-of-Warranty premium telephone line. You will be asked for your serial number and possibly proof of purchase.

From the UK the number is 0905 0310006 (£0.35/min).

Someone reported that it was done and dusted in under 10 minutes. You could always request a call back...

If you are a masochist and enjoy pain, then go ahead with trying to get in touch with Sony Support to assist with your issue, it will probably drive you insane, cost you alot of time and may be money if you call their PREMIUM RATE SUPPORT NUMBER

Id suggest an intial email to Sony Support and make clear you would like them TO CALL YOU on your mobile and not have to pay £££s to their coffers for the premium rate number

You will then get someone from Holland or SA call you back within a week and you can explain your situation and they will confirm whether your model is covered for a free repair

Personally id bite the bullet and either buy another new laptop - plent good deals on at momment for decent spec Sonys under £500 or go to a recommended repairer who will be able to reball the chip

If you live in Central London try the many repairers located at Queensway Computer Market next to the tube station on Central Line

Otherwise there are many repairers on eBay charging around £70-£100 to get this  repair done, but check their feedback carefully to ensure they are able to deliver

Good luck and keep us posted how you get on
