VGN-S2HP problems with Viao updates

Since downloading the Automatic updates from the Viao site the CPU is running at 100%, egg timer is permanently on and system is generally slow. Have managed to use system restore to get rid but just wondered if anyone else has had these problems and any solutions??

Firstly : automaticly VAIO-updates are useless, because updates are rare
Secondly : A system restore wouldn't fix the problem
Thirdly : You can delete VAIO updates from the systemstart (start > run >msconfig > systemstart) (if you have deactivate this, then Vaioupdate start never more)

Have a look at this thread:-

I think you have the same problem. I logged it with e-support on the 28th and am still waiting for a reply. I think I actually gave them too much information because I've not been fobbed off with anything silly. Perhaps they know about the problem and are keeping quiet.

FYI here is what I said:-
===
Detailed problem description: I have a new VGN S3XP and having done nothing to the machine (except remove Norton Anti Virus and add McAfee Internet Security) I've done all the Windows updates and the Sony updates and have a problem where the csrss image name is using 60% of the processor time and VCSW is using the rest 30%.

If I stop the VAIO Entertainment Database Service (VzCdbSvc) in the msconfig Services section, (having stopped the File import service that is dependent on it). the problem goes away - ie we go back to 95% idle time.
===

If you do the the same using start, run, services.msc to try stopping the same services does it work please?

Hope this may help and that it is a common problem, not a one off. Not that that would help you, but it could be some comfort.

Thank you - it does seem to be a common problem.

Interestingly, I also removed Norton Anti-virus and installed McAfee.

All seems to be working OK now - I'm just not going to download any updates from the Viao site unless 100% guaranteed!

Why am I not suprised Norton was to blame?

Okay,

Here's an update - I don't think Norton is too blame. I think the problem may be to do with the Safeguard product that was pre installed, Utimaco or whatever it was called. I've uninstalled it now, and reinstalled the McAfee Privacy Sevice and it appears to work okay now.

Also, done a full restore just to prove it and removed both Norton and Safeguard early on, before installing all of McAfee and doing all Sony, Windows and McAfee updates and I've had no problems. Early day's I know, but it's looking good.

LJC can you please try this because Sony don't appear to know about it and I think it is because McAfee is better than Norton at protecting your PC. Otherwise why wasn't Safeguard and Norton conflicting. Just remove the Safeguard product (it's only a trial anyway) and install all of McAfee.
