I was wondering if Sony could develop firmware that allows MP4 playback. I'm really kicking myself that I got a VP, especially with the NW-HD5 coming. What a machine, the real start of Sony's ipod killing campaign I think. I only bought the damn thing cos of that funny logo with four letters that not many people pronounce correctly:smileytongue: . And its only a VAIO because it has a photo viewer. However, it could truly make itself a VAIO if it had MP4 playback. But will I have to buy the VP2 or will Sony just update the firmware. Anyone have any ideas??
i dont think sony will release ANY firmware update soon unless it occurs that the new vaio model needs firmware update so they make one compatible for both.
but again this will be in years time if they keep on moving this fast!:smileydevil:
Maybe if Click to DVD or similar SonySoftware supports MPEG4 or/and DivX.:smileydevil:

I don't think it'll support MP4 or AAC....
Yeah, but that's wrong. And I think if Sony changes not this strategy, then Sony will lose this fight in the future.
Yes, it's a shame, but they're trying to protect Connect from getting bust I guess.
And they don't want to be friends with iTunes LOL
Yep, the problem is only SonicStage will never win the fight with iTunes. Because iTunes supports MP3 which is the most popular Codec on the world. (I'm not a fan of MP3) MP4 or ACC are more interesting. These both Codecs have really pontential (which is unused at the moment:smileyrolling_eyes: ). NERO MP4 is the better as the version from Apple at the moment.
Atrac3, I'm a little bit sad about this Codec.:smileysad:
I think we're all a little sad about ATRAC3. I think Sony only use it to as MP3 is used with file sharing programs and sony would be supporting them really, which is bad as they are a music label. But they have surrendered to mp3 in the end, with the VP, hd3 and 5 supporting mp3, although they do encourage use of ATRAC for longer battery life and gapless playback.
Mmmh, Atrac3 is a excellent Codec for live streams from the Internet. But it's a bad choice for music storage. If need really gapless playback and so one, and you listen this music only one your PC via HIFI, then I would prefer foobar2000.
