VGN Tx5mw Memory Memory!!

just got pc and vista on it has 1gb, we all know 1gb is load crap for vista need least 2gb or more to run it perfectly:

says max speed i can do is 533.0
and max ram is 1.5gb

but why is is this can i have more must be a way sony blocking users for upgrading to more ram as the faster model of the same laptop supports 2gb ram now mate me bit confused, the model seems exactly same as my one the one i talk bout is the tx5vn, so this all bit confusing i know other people also chat bout this memory issue i mean sony has made one best pc in the world but i mean the tx5 is hardly a upgrade from tx3 lazyness or what why limit us when u pay like 1500 or 2000 grand for a laptop...!!

any suggestions???

Hi tsardob and welcome to Club Vaio.

The problem is that the TX-Series has only ONE RAM slot where the memory module can be changed and the rest of the RAM is fixed to the main board and (rather like notebook graphics chips)cannot be upgraded.

Your model has 512MB Fixed and a 512MB removeable RAM Module. The maximum you can use is 512MB Fixed and 1GB RAM Module = 1536MB

The VN Model has 1024MB Fixed to the Motherboard + 1GB RAM Module = 2048MB

The same applies to the G-Series Vaios - so you have to study your needs before you buy these ultra compact models.

Huum after some research i found out it supports fsb533 and fsb667 ram intresting seems sony site hasnt been updated or proper details released...now im i willing to test a 1gb ram module or 2gb ram in the extra slot knowing that sony said over 512mb in that slot will not be supported, whats the worst that can happen?

Yes most recent Vaios will support 533 or 667 mHz memory.

Your memory slot has a 512MB module which you can replace with a 1GB module to give you a total of 1536MB.

I would not exceed the stated maximum - the worse that can happen is that you may damage your motherboard and invalidate your Warranty. Couldn't get much worse than that!
