Hi all,
I've got a VGN-Z21VN, great bit of kit, love it, but I want to upgrade it. Currently got 4 GB RAM and 320 HDD. I want to upgrade to 8 GB RAM and swap the HDD for an SSD drive.
I am planning on installing Win7 Ultimate 64-bit to make use of the enhanced memory capabilities.
Just called VAIO help line and they said I can't upgrade. Apparently my VGN-Z21VN has the maximum amount of RAM it can take - 4GB. Apparently the motherboard is 32-bit and therefore will not support a 64-bit OS. The support guy said if I upgrade the RAM the laptop won't boot up and if I install a 64-bit OS the 64-bit capabilities will not work. He also said there is no option for installing an SSD and there is no option for upgrading the motherboard.
In short I’m sitting with a totally un-upgradable bit of kit...
However, in the Performance Information Page on my laptop, I see the following:
System ________________________________________
Manufacturer Sony Corporation
Model VGN-Z21VN_X
Total amount of system memory4.00 GB RAM
System type 32-bit operating system
Number of processor cores2
64-bit capable Yes
Is what the support guy saying true? Has anyone else upgraded their RAM? Or installed a 64 bit OS on a Z21VN? Or swapped their HDD for an SSD?
