Vista failed to start

windows vista failed to start because the HAL is missing.What can I do.Help please!!

I did not get a windows vista CD.

Hi marcierp,

This may mean that the hard drive has failed but there are a couple of things you can try.

1 Borrow a retail Vista CD or download a Vista Recovery Disk and burn the ISO to CD, boot from this and attempt a repair.

2 Assuming that the boot process gets as far as the Vaio logo, try tapping F10 to enter the HDD Recovery Utility and restore your system to factory defaults – if this is successful you will lose all personal data and third party programs.
