What if you double the RAM?

I'm interested in a Sony VGC-V3S desktop and using Vista on it. Sony recommend the maximum RAM as 1GB - but is that a guideline or gospel? If I doubled it to 2GB RAM would it perform faster or cause problems?

Thanks

Hi camelchops,

Welcome to Club Vaio..

According to Crucial.com your Vaio V3S can support 2Gb of RAM..

Here is a guide on how to upgrade your Vaio's memory ?

Many thanks for this. Interesting that Sony and Crucial disagree on the maximum RAM - Sony say 1GB in all their specs. But if Crucial are right, then problem solved!

It's a question that's dominated forums and boards for years, will RAM actually help me, and in a way yes, but the rest of the machine needs to be quick to make full use of the new RAM. It's no good having a slow bus rate and adding more RAM as you'll get a bottleneck and slow down, but on new machines getting more RAM often pays off.
