My DVD-RW drive is broken on my N11S/W as it won't recognise any disc i put in, it just makes some very strange loud noises. Where can i buy a replacement and are they easy to fit? Thanks
Hi barnesey99,
Before replacing the drive, have a look in Device Manager for any errors - it may be a driver problem: -
Start -> Right-click on My Computer -> Properties -> Hardware -> Device Manager
Expand the branch for DVD/CD-ROM Drives. Are there any yellow excamation marks against the drive? If yes, double-click on the drive and come back here with the error code.
Also, check that any firmware updates for your drive have been installed from here: -

If it is all OK then please let us know which make of optical drive you have fitted in your model - Sony have used more than one type of drive in your model.
Most slimline optical drives will fit but it is usually best to find one of the same make as your original so that the faceplate can be used from the old drive. Prices start at around £25 these days. Have a look at this one: -

EDIT: Replacement does not look too difficult: -
Thank you for the help. Unfortunately there is no problem shown in the device manager and I have the latest driver installed from the VAIO website. But still no success with the drive.
The drive is a QSI DVD +-RW SDW-085. I haven't seen anywhere to buy it on the internet so far.
