For me no because i do not trust their quality checks, i think they try and rush out the latest fashion craze and then get on with designing the next.
Their driver downloads/documentation are dismal to say the least
Now I have the dreaded GRX memory slot problem I deffinately won't be buying a Sony laptop again.

Know what you're saying mate, although it's not a case of "hating VAIO's"; simply getting ticked off with the lack of after-sales service, which is down to Sony Corp rather than their products - which are still pretty cool even if their reliability is a little suspect
You're right, they are good, but they need some after-sales too.

Just to re-open the can of worms , I wont be buying a VAIO again. This is my first SONY laptop which I bought over a Toshiba or DELL primarily because of a great deal but also aesthetics. They definatley look 'cooler' than most machines except that ACER Ferrari model!.
From the day I first booted I had a dead pixel through to the 'bend-over' attitude aftersales have I'm not pleased, thankfully this forum always has the solution. Its a shame because all other areas that SONY cover, namely home A/V products I have always been satisfied with.
Well I have to be firmly in the 'NOT A CHANCE IN HELL' camp on this one.
I got my GRX 416SP due to the nice big 16inch screen, decent 1.8 GHz P4M and a decent 40Gb HDD allied to what I thought was the quality from the Sony name.
How wrong can a guy be ? Ok, so for 18months or so, not a problem, wonderful machine. But then came the odd boot failure, the occasional hang, so by not long after the 2 year point I discover after enquiries here and on the village, I am yet another victim of RAM slot failure. Not being made of money to pay Sony's criminal repair costs, I sorted a temporary repair. Just before xmas last the cd/dvd decided to die too.
Now I'm not going into cosmetic things such as the stunning case wear around the touchpad or the seriously fast loss of 2 or 3 letters from the keys, but put everything together and make a choice..... there's no way I'll be buying another Sony computer and I'll be unlikely to buy any other Sony products either. I have already pointed friends and collegues away from Sony products, citing the problems I now know of.
When will the pillocks at Sony realise they're damaging their own business by their action and inaction ?

I PHONED SONY CONCERNING A FAULT I COULD SEE DOWN THE SIDE OF MY SCREEN, THEY SAID THEY WOULD PICK IT UP AFTER EXPLAINING I WOULD BE CHARGED IF NO FAULT FOUND, DHL PICKED MY LAPTOP UP THE NEXT DAY AND TOOK IT TO FRANCE, AFTER A WEEK I CONTACTED THE HELPLINE AND GOT A UPDATE THAT THE LCD WAS FAULTY AND THEY WERE WAITING FOR THE NEW LCD. I HAVE NOW GOT MY LAPTOP BACK. THE FAULT IS STILL THERE THE SCREEN HAS NOT BEEN REPLACED THE FAULT IS IN THE SAME PLACE, THEY HAVE NOT REPLACED IT, ITS IMPOSSIBLE TO BELEIVE THAT SUCH A HUGE COMPANY LIKE SONY CAN TELL LIES TO PEOPLE LIKE THIS. I HAVE A REPAIR CARD LISTING A NEW SCREEN WAS PUT IN BUT CLEARLY NOT. CAN SOMEONE PLEASE ADVISE ME MY NEXT THING I SHOULD DO! I TRUSTED SONY TO TAKE MY LAPTOP AND FIX IT BUT NOW I DONT TRUST THEM AT ALL. WHAT CAN I DO TO SOLVE THIS, MY LAPTOP IS ONLY 3 MONTHS OLD AND I DONT WANT THEM TO TAKE IT AWAY AGAIN AND LOSE IT FOR ANOTHER TWO WEEKS. CAN ANYONE SAY WHAT I CAN DO AND SAY WHERE I STAND.
