Stupid question time, because I have nothing to test it on. Will the K-Series built in Memory Stick reader read anything other than Sony memory sticks?
YES. It will read Lexar Memory sticks as well as the Sony Memory Sticks for a fraction of the price...
Wow cool. What about SD cards and memory cards?
Mine reads Lexar and Memorex ones fine.
Correct.
I use them since 2 years (Lexar64MB) better as a Floppy disc
But it's a little bit ti slow. Buy a MemoryStick Pro for more speed.
Lexar MemorySticks have 5 years guarantee.
Wow cool. What about SD cards and memory cards?
I mean like this kind of card http://www.digimem.biz/Results.cfm?secondary=11 (Good prices on this site by the way) for digital cameras. Are they a different size though, they look it. I'm just wondering if they would work in the built in reader.
If it's only a Memory Stick reader then no.
The RA104 can read those as it has a multi card reader.
My GRX only has MS capabilities.
Sorry TT - the K-Series only have Memory Stick Readers.
Iomega do a nice CDRW and DVD-ROM external drive with a 7-in-one card reader for these formats:
CF (CompactFlash)
SD (SecureDigital)
MMC (MultiMediaCard)
XD (Fuji/Olympus XD Picture Card)
MS (MemoryStick)
MS PRO (MemoryStick PRO)
MiniSD
SM (SecureMedia)
Lexar also do a USB JumpDrive reader for up to 7 cards and SanDisk make excellent USB stand-alone desktop card readers for one particular type of card.
Here is an example of all the readers out there, on Amazon.co.uk
Thanks, I think I will stick with just plugging the camera itself into the computer. It's just really fiddly, and the cover is hung on by a thread like it was on the Xmas Network walkmans so you just know it's going to break. Shame, a built in card reader would be enormously useful.
