Dear Forum Users, I pruchased a Vaio VGN-FZ31s in March 2008. It came with Vista. I now want to replace vista with Windows 7. I already noticed, that I cannot use the Windows 7 orderform here. Do you know if a regular Windows 7 Version e.g. from amazon will work with my product without problems? Driver issues etc.? Will there be an upgrade or purchase option in the future here?
Hi Ikkebana,
Only Vaios purchased on or after 26 June 2009 will qualify for a 'free' Windows 7 Upgrade Kit from Sony.
You will need to buy the Windows 7 Home Premium UPGRADE disc - about £70 from PC World or Currys.
If you select an 'In-place Upgrade' you will keep all your software and settings. It appears that a few things may not work until Sony hopefully releases Windows 7 specific drivers and utilities.
You may find the FN keys and the touchpad don't work properly. You can always wait until these small problems have been solved if you prefer.
Thank you very much for your reply. Do you think Sony will definately bring out the necessary Win 7 drivers for the VGN FZ31S? Due to former experiences I am a bit worried that they will not do so. Best Regards
I am sure they will in time but you may not need them. Some of these drivers just need to be reinstalled.
When I Upgraded by AR31S to Windows 7, everything worked and I did not need any dedicated Windows 7 drivers.
