Please Help!!!
This Vaio was just taken out of the box.
I was following the initial setup for Windows 8.
The last message I got was "Creating Windows Account".
Then the screen went black and after 30 minutes has not returned.
I know from another PC that the wireless setup was correct because my broadband hub has the new Vaio with the correct laptop name.
How do I get to Windows 8?
Or how do I restart this setup?
Will will pressing the Assist key do this?
Cheers
Declan
Hi Declan and welcome.
Yes, you are right. Make sure the Vaio is shut down completely - press and hold the power button for 5 seconds if it is still running. Press the ASSIST button and follow the instructions for a full recovery.
Have a look in your Recovery and Troubleshooting Guide here: -

Make sure the Vaio is connected to AC Power as the Recovery may take some time - it could take several hours, so just let it run even if it appears to be idle.
Good Luck!!
We got 2 new Vaios this week, an E17 & an E14 - they had different WiFi cards.
The one in the E17 played ball perfectly - I had issues with the one in the E14.
My WiFi network was setup as hidden & on channel 9....the E14 WiFi card seems to have to be set to a specific channel (no auto mode).
I changed my WiFi network to run on Channel 11....this helped but the connection was still a little unreliable.
I have now made the network visible - this has solved all my problems & the E14 now connects reliably.
I plugged the laptop in with an ethernet cable for the initial setup...it took me a couple of days to solve the above issues.
I set my network to channel 11 rather than change the channel on the laptop as I think 11 is the most common/default for most routers - it makes life easier when connecting to other networks if this is left as it is.
This may or may not help you...at least it might help rule out some issues.
