WinDVD BD for Vaio Update Problems

HELP PLEASE

Vaio update installed WinDVD BD 8.8.0.154 and it wouldn't play Blu Rays anymore (DVDs would play).

Sony support suggested that I uninstall the software and use Vaio recovery to install the original software but there was an error 505:41.

Reinstalling everything (including the OS) from scratch is not an option. Now I'm left with no DVD/BD software.

I'd like to get the previous version of the WinDVD software back (8.0-B20.185) can anyone help ???

Thanks,

Gary

PS System is running Windows 7 Home Premium 32bit

Hi Dajenni,

Not in my case, my AV software is Norton Internet Security 2011 and it's not running in silent mode so all threats are reported twice, once when they're found and again in a monthly report. The only threats removed in the last couple of months are tracking cookies and they all check-out.

No, I think you're barking up the wrong tree, I still think it's a bug in the WinDVD update. I've had other experience of Sony software causing problems like wiping clean my iTunes database.

The solution was to uninstall the offending Sony software.

oh the other thing that seems to make windvd bd work is setting your laptops date back before the vaio update. i set mine to dec 2010 it seems the aacs still work for that date.

my laptop displays the wrong date but at least i can use my blu rays again

Dear All,

Sorry to be the bearer of bad news but after many, many emails to Sony they've totally denied responsibility for the problems caused by their update to WinDVD for Vaio (and their poor advice to uninstall WinDVD before trying to reinstate the original version using the Vaio Recovery Center).

Sony customer support insist that a total system rebuild is the only solution they can offer. They are not interested that this is not practicle because of the hours/days it would take to restore all my other software, updates/upgrades and data files (which are not affected by this problem).

I've disabled the Vaio update software to try to ensure the integrity of my system and will be very reluctant to trust updates from Sony ever again.

I guess that I'll have to purchase PowerDVD once the the 30-day trial is over if I ever want to watch Blu-ray discs on my Vaio again.

All I can say in summary is... Sony, I'm very unhappy about your poor support on this occasion.

Regards,

Gary

PS. The standard of English from Sony support operatives is very poor (see attached).

Hi Blencogo,

Eleven days since you said this was passed to Sony and still no response despite the number of people affected by this problem rising. Do you think it's likely that we'll get any feedback on this from Sony or will I be forced to buy PowerDVD to fix the issue ?

Hi,

I'm not too computer savvy and have been trying for days to get the blu-rays to play on my VGN-FW21L and only realised after reading this discussion that I was never going to fix it as it was due to downloading the new WinDVD software....come on Sony...this is one way to lose customer support. I have a Sony TV, laptop, Camera, Video recorder..love the brand because everything just does as it should......just get it sorted.

Hi All!

Same problem here, installed the update through Vaio Update and now my Vaio won't play Blu Rays anymore! WinDVD starts and then nothing I can't click on any of the menus either. It's not AVG because I'm running Microsoft Security Essentials. Come on Sony just give us a update to sort this out, it's not like we're asking for something free, just for the hardware and software that we paid for to work! I've got a VGN-FW21M...

A quick update:

Following my last post, I retrieved the affected file from the virus vault, where it had (again) been placed by AVG. I set up an exception on the Resident Shield.  I then found it was possible to watch Blu-rays by . I also sent the affected file to AVG for analysis, and it appears that one of the latest updates has removed the problem, and I have now removed the exception.

If you have the same problem, updating the AVG database, and moving the affected file (SQPlus.dll) back from the virus valt should work.

From what I read, others seem to have other, more serious and fundamental problems with this update, I hope this might help some of you, or at least give some clues!

Hello all,

Does anyone have an update on this?

My situation is similar to all of yours: Ever since I installed the update my Blu Ray drive has just stopped working, and refuses to play Blu Rays, whatever program I try to use (DVDs play fine).

I have phoned Vaio support and they told me to do a load of things I'd already tried (reinstalling the firmware/WinDVD BD, uninstalling and reinstalling the disk drive etc). To be quite honest I'd rather not fork out for another call to them, so am waiting for a solution to appear on the net, any help would be hugely appreciated!

My laptop's a VGN-FW31J running Windows 7 Home Premium SP1.

Blu Ray Drive is a Matshita BD-CMB UJ130AS.

I suppose it's also worth mentioning that I am a UK user.

Many thanks in advance!

I´m having same problem. Before updating to Corel BD my blu rays was not working also, I thought the update would fix it, but it´s still not working.

I use AVAST anti-virus and Windows Vista and my model is FW31J.

Has anyone found a solution yet?

Thanks,

Lu
